Demetrius ‘Big Meech’ Flenory has been released from prison earlier Urban Islandz learned.

The Black Mafia Family co-founder was reportedly transferred to a halfway house after being released from federal prison on Wednesday (October 16). His exact whereabouts were not made public, but according to prison records, he is currently not in custody, which means he is one step closer to being a free man after being incarcerated for decades. Big Meech was initially slated to be released in 2025 after a judge approved his request for an early release.

His current status says “Not in BOP Custody” which means one of three things, he was transferred to another prison, released to a halfway house, or released on parole/supervised release. Checks by Urban Islandz show that Meech was not transferred to another facility.

Sources confirmed with Urban Islandz that he was slated to be released sometime in early 2025 after 32 months was shaved off his sentence. How long he will be held at a halfway house is not yet known. Nevertheless, this is a significant shift in fortune for the BMF honcho, who was looking at a few more years in prison before his release.

Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory was originally sentenced to 30 years in federal prison in 2008 following his conviction for running a large-scale criminal drug enterprise with his brother Terry Lee “Southwest Tee” Flenory. At the time, the feds say it was one of the largest criminal enterprises in the United States which brought in around $270 million for Big Meech.

Flenory has received much spotlight in recent years after his attorney, Brittany K. Barnett, filed an application for a reduced sentence based on section 18 582(c)(2) of the United States Criminal Code (U.S.C.) being changed based on Amendment 821 by the Sentencing Commission. During the global pandemic in 2021, he received a reduced sentence which resulted in his release date being updated to 2028.

However, earlier this year a judge further reduced by sentence by 32 months after his attorney argued that Big Meech has taken on a leadership role in prison where he coach other inmates about the importance of fitness and health. He also worked to transform the image of the Black Mafia Family enterprise into a family-oriented organization, Build More Families, which further highlights his rehabilitation.

Big Meech and the Black Mafia Family have also gotten a lot of attention from 50 Cent’s TV series BMF on the Starz network. The TV show chronicled the brother’s rise to fame while running a sophisticated drug operation in the 1990s to 2000s, spanning Detroit, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. Big Meech’s son, Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., stars as his father in the show.

Terry Lee “Southwest Tee” Flenory was released from prison on home confinement on May 5, 2000, due to COVID risks. The brothers are now set for a reunion sometime soon.
