Vybz Kartel dropped hints that Drake could be gracing the stage at his highly anticipated Freedom Street concert.
The dancehall legend and his production team at Downsound Entertainment are putting in the finish touches ahead of the New Year’s Eve show at the National Stadium. The concert will be Vybz Kartel’s first post-prison live performance after not performing live for his fans in almost thirteen years. The show’s lineup is already star-studded with artists like Popcaan, Chronic Law, Skillibeng, Spice, and Jah Vinci.
However, Vybz Kartel shared that some other big names are set to take the stage on December 31st, including Bounty Killer and Masicka. He also shared that an unnamed artist from Canada will be performing at the event, leaving fans to believe that Drake will be in Jamaica to ring in the New Year.
“It’s going to be an amazing musical selection and a musical journey up until around 10 o’clock when Vybz Kartel hits the stage on time people, 10 p.m. sharp,” Kartel said at a press conference over the weekend. “I am opening and I am closing the show. During that time, because the theme of the stage show itself the live performance is unity.”
Kartel shared that the show will be a Portmore Empire reunion with several former members of his Gaza crew set to take the stage, including Lisa Hyper, Gaza Indy, Sheba, Shawn Storm, and others.
“It’s a Portmore Empire reunion so you know Popcaan will be there, Jah Vinci will be there, Lisa Hype will be there, Indu will be there, Sheba will be there,” he added. “Plus you know along the way we have some new stars, Skillibeng, Chronic Law, international stars like Shatta Wale.”
The “Fever” deejay added that an unnamed artist from Canada will be at the event along with Busta Rhymes and Tommy Lee Sparta. “Some other artist from Canada which will remain unnamed,” he shared. “Spice the Queen of Dancehall me can’t left her out.”
Downsound Entertainment chairman Joe Bogdanovich also confirmed Vybz Kartel’s statement about an unnamed artist from Canada who will be performing at Freedom Street. “That person in Canada, I can’t mention his name but he will be here,” Bogdanovich said in an interview with Entertainment Report at the National Stadium. “Freedom Street the shackles are off.”
Both Drake and Vybz Kartel have shown love to each other since the dancehall star’s release from prison in the summer of 2024. The Portmore deejay shared that Drizzy is one of the artists he is hoping to collaborate with as he gets back to music.
