Busta Rhymes praised Kendrick Lamar for his new album GNX as the project set for a No. 1 debut.
The Compton rapper stunned the hip-hop a week ago when he released a surprising album. Kendrick Lamar dropped the project without any prior notice or promotion. What’s even more impressive about GNX is that the “Not Like Us” rapper didn’t hold back in going after other rappers who support his number one foe, Drake. These include a few legends like Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg, whom he called out.
Both Weezy and the West Coast rap legends have since responded to being mentioned in the bars but in different ways. While Lil Wayne threatened to start another hip-hop Armageddon if provoked, Snoop Dogg took back his support of Drake.
Kendrick Lamar is also getting huge support from rap fans, even the folks who previously supported Drake. He is also getting support from Nas and Busta Rhymes. The New York legends shared some kind words for K.Dot after listening to the new album, with Busta saying that the project set the bar high.
“King Kendrick, such an incredible body of work,” Rhymes wrote in a post on his Instagram page. “Brilliance and lyrical craftsmanship at its finest. Thank you for continuing to raise the bar!.”
While this is not the first time Busta Rhymes has praised Kendrick Lamar for his artistry, this latest comment certainly makes his feelings very clear. He previously praised K.Dot for his music video “The Heart Part 5,” when he called the Los Angeles rapper the best among his generation for his visually acclaimed music videos.
The feeling is mutual between the two rap icons. Kendrick previously shared that he drew inspiration from Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot, saying he and his video creator, Dave Meyes, would always be in awe watching Missy and Busta’s iconic videos when they were in high school.
Busta Rhymes and Kendrick Lamar previously collaborated on the single “Look Over Your Shoulder” in 2020. The song samples The Jackson 5’s classic “I’ll Be There” and is featured on Busta’s album, Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God. Busta and Drake have yet to do a song together.
