Anthony Cruz is taking his daughter’s murder very hard. A rep for the reggae singer told Dancehall HipHip that he has been out of it since getting the news on Monday.
The gruesome murder took place on Monday in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. 15-year-old Shanice Smith and her mother were shot to death inside their home which resulted in a lengthy police standoff with the accused killer 32-year-old man, Kevin Nelson, who is currently behind bars awaiting trial.
“Anthony was not in Florida at the time of the murder, but flew there this week to get more answers,” his rep told DHH. “He is devastated and his family is devastated. This is hard because Shanice is his only daughter and they had a very close bond. You simply can’t imagine what’s going through his mind right now.”
The singer’s rep also told DHH that he will be making a statement sometime soon and is asking for privacy as he continues to grieve. “I can’t believe they kill my one and only daughter in ft.lauderdale,” Anthony Cruz said in a short statement on Facebook earlier this week.
Kevin Nelson 911 call has since been released and you can hear him telling the dispatcher that he is the person with the gun and he shot and killed Karen Lyle and Shanice Smith. The murder reportedly took place on Friday, but the 911 call didn’t come in until Monday.
