Vybz Kartel proves he is more than just a prolific deejay with his hilarious impersonation of Bounty Killer.

The Portmore deejay was chopping it up on Instagram Live earlier this week when he spotted a page joined his Live that he thought was Bounty Killer, whose Instagram handle is @grunggaadzilla. Vybz Kartel quickly realized that the page was not his former mentor’s real page since it wasn’t a verified account. He proceeded to call out the fake page using his best Bounty Killer voice.

“Oh a no Bounty that is a fake Bounty page,” Kartel said. “‘Weh the bloodc— unnu a fake Bounty Killer page fa youth. Youth weh the bloodc—-. Yeah man big up bad gyal Lee Lee’. That’s my Bounty Killer impression by the way.” The Warlord re-shared the clip writing, “Dat a nuh Bounty is a Stunty” which prompted a comment from Kartel, who wrote, “Cho bloodc— Weh you say mi Don a Stunty?”

Vybz Kartel and Bounty Killer have a storied history in dancehall. The Warlord was the first big-name artist to bring the World Boss to the forefront of dancehall. Kartel also wrote several hit songs for The General in the 2000s era, including songs like “Gal Clown” and “Look Into My Eyes.”

In a 2010 interview, Kartel shared that he wrote over 30 songs for the dancehall legend a lot of which were big hits. “I wrote about 30-odd songs in total. ‘Gal Clown’ and a lot of those war lyrics were by me,” he shared. Kartel was also a member of The Alliance, an outfit Bounty Killer led in the 2000s. However, the two had a bitter falling out in the mid-2000s that saw Kartel aligning with Killer’s rival Beenie Man and then later founding his own crew, Portmore Empire.

Nevertheless, the two dancehall legends mend their relationship over the past several years with Bounty Killer being a strong advocate for Vybz Kartel’s freedom while incarcerated. Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, was released from behind bars on July 31st after serving almost thirteen years. He is now getting ready for his first show since being released with his Freedom Street concert set for New Year’s Eve at the National Stadium in Kingston. Let’s hope we will see Bounty Killer perform with one of his musical sons at the event.
