Vybz Kartel is trolling Mavado over his new song.
Mavado released his new single “Big Like Jesus” last month when he received some heavy criticism from dancehall fans for it. Vybz Kartel has since found a way to troll his arch-rival without commenting directly on his Instagram page. ZJ Chrome, who produced the single, made a post on his IG and Kartel left a comment on it with some laughing face emoji while tagging his friend TJ Records who also left some laughing face emoji.
Vybz Kartel and Mavado have been bitter enemies from since the mid-2000s. Their beef, the Gully/Gaza feud, is one of the most notorious and fierce rivalries in dancehall’s history, rival only by the Bounty Killer and Beenie Man feud of the 1990s. In 2016, the Gully/Gaza beef was revived as both Vybz Kartel, and Mavado traded lyrical bars. The feud was short-lived due to Kartel’s incarceration which affected the quality of his productions.
Mavado received some backlash from some of his fans who are Christians when he posted the artwork for the single which portrayed himself as Jesus. The Gullyside singer has since addressed the controversy in a since-deleted post on his Instagram. “Is it me being in the image or the image itself?” he wrote. “It’s Halloween season we dress up our kids and houses is all form of devil representations and it’s ok?”
“I have been representing for God ever since I was a child until my last breath so I will forever represent for him, even the Christians are scared to represent for God now when last you see someone knock at your door telling you to come to church they scared to get shot,” Mavado added.
