Kendrick Lamar is having the best month of his career with his highest album debut for DAMN and now all 14 songs on the project debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The first single off the project “HUMBLE” also topped the chart this week after seeing a surge in sales. This is the first time that the Compton rapper is topping the chart as a lead artist. He previously did it as a guest on Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood.” DAMN is Kendrick Lamar’s third straight number one album after selling 603,000 equivalent album units in the first week. The project is also shaping up to top the chart for a second week.
DAMN received a total of 388.5 million U.S. streams in the week ending April 20 with the single “HUMBLE” getting the bulk of the streaming 67.4 million which is an increase of 56 percent over the previous week, Nielsen Music reported. This is the biggest streaming week for a single song since “Harlem Shake” by Baauer rakes in 103 million streams in the week ending March 2, 2013.
The single “DNA” is the second highest charting song on the album peaking at number four on the Hot 100 chart. The song earns Kendrick Lamar his fifth top ten single and only his second as a lead artist. The TDE rapper also released a blockbuster music video co-starring Don Cheadle.
