Drake and Popcaan alleged new single “My Chargie” has been making the rounds on social media since the weekend, but we’re told it’s one hundred percent fake.
The track rocked up over 100,000 views on YouTube in the first day it was uploaded. Urban Islandz reached out to a rep for Popcaan who told us that his camp had nothing to do with the song. We also noticed that the verse from Drake is the same verse featured on his new single with WzKid “Come Closer.”
“This wasn’t released by us so this is either a fan made song or another producer put something together on his own, Notnice didn’t produced this,” a rep for the Unruly camp told us. “That verse from Popcaan is old and clearly that Drake verse is on the new WizKid song. Even the beat is recycled if you been paying attention to music you would automatically notice that the song is fake.”
The deejay’s rep also told us that a Drake and Popcaan collaboration is in the making and it will be worth the wait. “A proper Drake and Popcaan collaboration will come in the future, I know the fan have been hungry for it, but it will be worth the wait,” we’re told. “We don’t let anyone fans or critics alike dictate how we make and release music. I know there is this notion that because they are friends then they should automatically be doing music together. But Drizzy and Poppy are friends in and outside of music. The man on with the YouTube channels just need to stop putting out old songs and giving them new names. It’s bad for the music.”
Drake and Popcaan previously collaborated on the Views single “Controlla” but that version didn’t featured on the album. Instead, Drake put another version with Beenie Man on the project and that angered Popcaan fans.
