Prosecutors Says Vybz Kartel Was Trafficking Weapons Prior To Arrest

Was Vybz Kartel the mastermind behind an underground criminal empire that trafficked weapons?

Jamaica’s Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jeremy Taylor is painting a dark picture of Vybz Kartel to keep him behind bars.

Vybz Kartel Optimistic He Will Be Free Despite Trial Delays

During a hearing yesterday in the Home Circuit Court in Kingston, Vybz Kartel lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson, asked the judge to grant his client bail given the numerous delays and several outstanding disclosures involved in the case.

However, Taylor objected to Tavares-Finson’s request arguing that the charges laid against the dancehall star are very serious.

Vybz Kartel has been behind bars since September 2011 on two murder charges for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams and Barrington “Bossie” Burton.

No Bail For Shawn Storm, Set To Go On Trial With Kartel

Taylor told the court that Vybz Kartel was not only an entertainer, but was also involved in an underground trade of weapons.

According to the prosecutor, Clive Williams was murdered over a missing firearm involved in the trade.

Taylor added that human blood was found in a section of the partially burnt house in Havendale that Williams was alleged beaten to death inside.

Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Jeremy Taylor also told the court that Vybz Kartel attempted to bribe the main witness in the case for $3 million.

Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, trial date is set for November 18.

He is being held without bail.
