Embattled dancehall star Vybz Kartel is breathing a sigh of relief as new reports confirmed that his assets are still in tact.
Earlier this week news went viral that police seized some of the deejay’s assets under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Items reportedly seized include his Mercedes-Benz S-Class, a laptop computer with information regarding properties he owns are being stored at the Police Commissioner’s Office in St Andrew.
The news also claimed that the Portmore Empire head will be tried as a crime boss as the investigation grows deeper into his criminal enterprise.
According to new reports by the Jamaica Observer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Elan Powell, head of Criminal Investigation Bureau, said he was unaware of this.
“I don’t know anything about that and if that was the case, I would know,” he said.
Vybz Kartel was arrested on September 30th in Kingston and was slapped with two murder charges and possession of illegal firearm in the weeks that followed. The murder charges stemmed from police investigation into the murder of St Catherine businessman/promoter Barrington ‘Bossie’ Bryan and alleged gangster Clive “Lizard” Williams.
Vybz Kartel returns to court on February 1.
