Vybz Kartel Lawyers Calls On DPP To Investigate Officers Who Raid Jail Cell

Vybz Kartel lawyers are preparing to file a bail application on November 18, the same day the dancehall star is set to begin his second murder trial.

According to attorney Chris Taveres-Finson, the recent report from the Constabulary Communication Network, CCN, could prejudice the bail application and the pending trial.

Last week police officers released a statement saying they found contraband in Vybz Kartel’s jail cell including cellphones and DVD player.

However, Kartel lawyer’s fired back saying the former Portmore Empire deejay had approval from a superintendent of police for the items.

Now Tavares-Finson is going even further by calling on the Commissioner of Police and the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, to investigate the CCN and prosecute them if found in contempt of the court.

“The attempt of the news release by the CCN was to prejudice his pending bail application and to prejudice his trial,” Tavares-Finson told Irie FM. “We have written to the Commissioner of Police and the Director of Public Prosecution inviting them to investigate the matter and if it is found that the CCN were in contempt of court then they should be prosecuted.”

Police officers say they searched Vybz Kartel jail cell as part of their investigation into the recent murder of famed producer Patrick “Roach” Samuels.

Roach, a former road manager for Vybz Kartel, was gunned down in his Chevrolet Avalanche at a gas station on Mannings Hill Road in Kingston on Sunday, September 15.

Vybz Kartel returns to court on November 18 where he is expected to begin trial for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Police say Kartel and his co-accused beat Williams to death in the Summer of 2011 over a missing firearm.
