Meek Mill has seemingly taken a dig at Drake following news of his legal action against UMG over Kendrick Lamar’s feud.
Drake has received mixed reactions in the hip-hop community this week following legal filings by his attorneys against Universal Music Group and Spotify for what he called them engaging in illegal tactics to boost the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s blistering diss track “Not Like Us.”
The song remains the biggest rap song of the year so far. According to Drake’s team, it’s all because the label both artists are signed to, UMG, engaged in an alleged scheme with Spotify to license the song at a reduced rate and used bots and other tactics to boost the numbers to make the song appears more popular that it is. Drizzy is also saying that the scheme caused him economic harm and that the label promoted a song that “falsely accusing him of being a sex offender.”
Some members of the hip-hop community, like Charlamagne Tha God, think that Drake is only taking legal action because he lost a rap battle. Meek Mill has now added his voice to the debate and he is rallying his fans against his former foe. You can recall Meek and Drake had a heated beef in 2015 that spawned one of the biggest diss songs of that era, “Back To Back.” Perhaps the Canadian rapper felt he could repeat the same success in another rap beef.
“But meek be tripping yeah Ard!” Meek wrote on X. The Philadelphia rapper has been under a lot of scrutiny in recent weeks over his alleged affiliation with Diddy. He is blaming the media for pushing a false narrative against him. However, now some fans are siding with him regarding his comment about Drake’s legal action against the label.
“Everybody crucified Meek when Drake dropped ‘Back to Back’ keep the same energy now that this man is suing because he lost the battle,” one fan wrote. However, not all fans were in support of Meek. “You say bots being paid to associate your name with Puff. This ain’t about you those same people Drake suing did it for him when he went against you. So Meek not right now,” another person wrote.
Funkmaster Flex also showed Drake support over the pending lawsuit by calling out a culture of payola in hip-hop.
