Shyne dishes on trying to reconcile with Diddy after spending a decade in prison.

The Belizean rapper previously shared that he was the fall guy in the 1999 nightclub shooting in New York City, a statement he came under fire for from NY disc jockey Funkmaster Flex. Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, is currently promoting his new documentary, The Honorable Shyne, which tells the story of him being one of the most promising rap prospects in that era whose career was derailed by the infamous shooting.

In his new interview on The Breakfast Club, Shyne shared that he received $50,000 from Diddy years after his release from prison. “He probably gave me like 50 racks [$50,000], and I’m like, ‘You can’t be serious.’ That’s 10 years… Fifty racks?” he said.

The rapper, who has transitioned into politics, says the Bad Boy Records founder came and visited him once in prison, but the visit did not go well. “He came to see me once, and I tried to spit in his face,” the “Bad Boyz” rapper shared. “I didn’t even know he was coming to see me. They just brought me down in the lawyer’s office.”

Shyne added that he still feels like Diddy owes him a lot more than that after serving nearly ten years in prison and derailing his career so that the rap mogul could go on to become a billionaire. “I got out in 2009. There wasn’t an attempt at reconciliation until 2012, when I went to Paris to meet him,” he said.

“I was still in a place of, he owes me his life. He’s a billionaire,” Borrow continues. “If it wasn’t for me, he wouldn’t have been a billionaire. If I would have cooperated with the district attorney, he’d have went to jail, and heaven knows what would have happened to his career. So that’s worth at least a couple million dollars out of the billion that you’re worth.”

Despite being cordial in recent years, Shyne is now creating a lot of distance between himself and Diddy, who is facing federal charges of sex trafficking, kidnapping, and racketeering. The Bad Boy Records founder could face decades in prison if convicted. While this is not the first time that Borrow has spoken ill of his former label boss, this is perhaps the most outspoken he has ever been.

Shyne released a trailer for his documentary, The Honorable Shyne, in which he stated that he was the fall guy in the shooting and that Diddy was the trigger man. Combs’ attorneys have since responded to the claims, saying the rap mogul denied the allegations made by his former artist.
