A police body cam footage from the day rapper Rich Homie Quan passed away has surfaced online.
Hip-hop is still reeling from the sudden death of one of the leading rappers of the past decade. Rich Homie Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died on September 5, 2024, at age 34. According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s report, his cause of death is listed as an accidental overdose. TMZ reported that the coroner’s report stated that fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine were found in his system.
After news of his death spread, there were questions raised by fans about possible foul play, but the reports stated that there were no signs of trauma on his body. Per the police report, the rapper’s brother, Andre Munford, told responding officers that he found Quan sleeping on the kitchen floor with food in his mouth around 3 a.m. on the morning of his death. Munford said he moved the rapper to the couch and left him sleeping.
Rich Homie Quan’s girlfriend, Amber Williams, said she woke up and saw the rapper sleeping on the couch before leaving the house to drop her kids off at school and returned home and went back to bed. She said she woke up again around 11 a.m. and that’s when she found Quan still on the couch but noticed he was unresponsive and his body was cold. That’s when she called 911 for help.
The responding officer’s body cam footage showed the moment the cop was questioning Munford and Williams about what transpired on the morning of September 5. Williams got emotional at one point while talking to the officer. Paramedics transported Rich Homie Quan to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where he was pronounced dead.
Additional reports allege that police had contacted homicide detectives initially because of suspicions the rapper’s death could be a homicide. However, no charges have been filed and no one has been arrested.
In the meantime, Rich Homie Quan’s legacy lives on with his estate releasing a posthumous album Forever Going In, on what would’ve been his 35th birthday, October 4, 2024. The album arrives with 34 tracks with guest appearances from Skilla Baby, Lil TJ, and 2 Chainz.
