Taye Diggs is the latest celebrity from Hollywood to speak out on Diddy’s current situation.
While a lot of the hip-hop mogul’s friends have remained silent amid a growing number of lawsuits and federal indictments, several others have been speaking out and almost no one is publicly supporting the label exec. Taye Diggs recently appeared on the Sibling Revelry podcast where he opened up about how he viewed Diddy prior to the disturbing allegations against him over the past year.
The “River Runs Red” actor says he was completely blindsided by Diddy’s arrest and the allegations made against him. Not only was he caught off guard, but the actor says he saw the rap mogul as a “hero” prior to learning about the allegations.
“I felt so naive when I heard all that stuff because I was… I don’t know where I was, but all of it blindsided me,” Diggs said. “He was a hero to me. I loved how he… he didn’t come from much, he started out as a dancer. All the things that I wasn’t, growing up, he was. He had so much confidence and a certain arrogance that I loved and he made being Black cool.”
“I really put him on a pedestal and it was disappointing to see some of what happened. I couldn’t believe it,” he continues, adding that he didn’t like the feeling he had afterward.
Other celebrities like Suge Knight and 50 Cent have spoken out against Diddy condemning him for the allegations. Fifty is currently working on a documentary with Netflix that will cover the downfall of the hip-hop icon. Knight has spoken out from behind bars saying that there may be secret tapes in the ether.
In the meantime, Sean Combs is getting ready to mount his defense ahead of a potentially contentious federal trial for sex trafficking, kidnapping, and racketeering. His attorney has indicated that he is eager to take the witness stand and tell his side of the story. On the other hand, he is also dealing with new lawsuits from women who allege sexual misconduct and abuse.
Diddy has been denied bond and is currently held at a detention center in Brooklyn.
