Prayers up for Angela Simmons and her family who are mourning the death of a love one.
Audiences were invited into their home for four years as part of Run’s House, which ran between 2005 and 2009. Throughout the reality show’s tenure, fans got to know several members of the family who are all tied to the titular Rev Run (aka Joseph Simmons), the co-founder of Run-D.M.C. And now, one of them has sadly passed. Rev Run’s daughter, Angela Simmons, broke the news on Instagram that her beloved grandmother had left them.
“Last night heaven gained an angel,” the shoe designer wrote alongside a photo of the pair holding Angela’s baby. “My Grandmother… I can’t believe I’m even typing this. Grandma… I miss you already. I love you. I can hear your voice telling me don’t worry. It’s so hard not to. Man. Wasn’t really expecting this. Until we meet again. #GoneTooSoon.”
Angela has unfortunately been through a lot of mourning of late, and this is, sadly, not her first grandmother to pass. In April of this year, her other grandma — Run’s mother-in-law — died, and the fashionista wrote a touching tribute to acknowledge her. “Grandma… We are going to miss you so much… we love you,” she wrote on her Instagram.
Both social media messages included pictures of Angela’s now-3-year-old son, Sutton Joseph Tennyson. The toddler’s father, Sutton Tennyson, was killed in a shooting in November 2018. Earlier this month, the 32-year-old honored her late fiancé with a heartfelt message on the anniversary of his death.
“Sutton, you left us exactly a year ago today. I want to let you know your baby boy is flourishing , he’s growing,” she wrote. “He’s everything you knew he’d be and even more. I look at him everyday… and I see you so much. You’d be so proud of him. The way I’m proud of him. I can never repay you or thank you enough for the light you have brought to my life. He’s so precious. And we miss you. So much more to say. But thank you for everything. Gone but never forgotten.”
We hope the year ahead is filled with far less death.
