Iggy Azalea put T.I. on blast for saying that she switched up after white people started liking her.
Iggy Azalea is tired of hearing her name come out of T.I.’s mouth. During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Tip elaborated on comments he made earlier this month when he called Iggy his “biggest blunder” as a producer. The new details of T.I.’s opinion on Azalea didn’t do anything to cast the Australian rapper in a better light, and she soon took to social media to dispute any ghostwriting insinuations and tell T.I. to “Keep it pushing sweetie & worry about what your next storyline is for family hustle.”
T.I., the Atlanta rap star and judge on Netflix’s hugely successful Rhythm + Flow, clarified on The Breakfast Club that he never doubted Iggy’s ability as an artist, but felt she was pandering to a white audience, saying, “…when she found out white people liked her and she didn’t really need black people to like her, she switched it up. Started acting different.” Iggy, however, continues to accuse T.I. of misogyny and inauthenticity, tweeting, “…seeing a man speaking out of his a**hole and blurting our [sic] one thing in public and another in private for years is really infuriating.”
Iggy made sure to assure everyone that she has “better and more interesting things happening” in her Twitter post, although she continues to respond every time T.I. utters her name. The tension between T.I. and Iggy seems a product of both racism and sexism. Iggy Azalea has been viewed by some as a problematic presence in the hip-hop world, adopting the persona of a black woman from the American south, despite being white and Australian.
After a feud between Iggy and fellow female rapper Azaelia Banks, legendary rapper Q-Tip schooled Iggy via social media on the history of hip-hop, race, and politics in America—topics she seems to know little about. However, T.I. also has a history of sexist comments, including his declaration in 2017 that he would never vote for a female president.
