Damian Marley picked up another accolade last week when he won the 2017 MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act.
Minister of Culture, Gender Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange, has issued a statement congratulating the reggae/dancehall deejay for the win. In her statement, she describes the artist as an outstanding member of the talented musical family, the Marleys. “[He] is on a roll, having just been nominated in the Best Reggae Album category of the Grammy Awards, and now winning the MOBO Award. It really feels special to say back-to-back congratulations to him,” the minister said.
Minister Grange also acknowledges artists like Alkaline, Popcaan, Aidonia, and Chronixx, who were all nominated in the category of Best Reggae Act. She said that all those artists are worthy of the award but ultimately there can only be one winner. Damian Marley and Chronixx are also both nominated in the Best Reggae Album category at the upcoming 60th annual Grammy Awards. Both artists have released great albums this year, but again only one can win the Grammy.

The Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award was established in the UK in 1998 and as since been recognizing the contribution of reggae/dancehall artists contribution to the music over the years. This is Damian Marley’s second MOBO Award.
Damian Marley won his Grammy . Some of the Marley’s are not nice that’s why Damian getting so much back lash . They just live up to their father’s name . It’s very very sad but it’s the truth . All these years in music what have they done for Jamaica . They sell everything they are all about money . Shaggy keeps Shaggy & friends . He makes the Marley’s look bad . Sean Paul Donated money .Ninja man helped so many people. Capelton , Bounty Killer . Lots of other reggae artists do their part . They had a tribute concert this year none one of the Marley’s were there .People are talking it does not look good . I heard is Stephen & Damian is the coolest . They only live up to their father’s name , legacy & all about money . Which new artists have any one the Marley’s help ? No one !
