Aidonia’s protege JAYDS steps out with ‘Weh We Come From’

Growing up in the tough enclaves of the inner city is chronicled in ‘Weh We Come From’, the latest single from recording artiste Jayds.

Released late August and featured on the 4th Genna Music imprint, the brooding composition which continues to gain favour across the diaspora is also accompanied by an official video which can be viewed via his VEVO channel at ‘JAYDSVEVO.’ “The song is inspired by past events and me becoming an artiste while growing up in the inner city,” Jayds said.

With aspirations of making a global impact, the burgeoning star has released a number of his own recordings in recent times with the most noteworthy being the aforementioned. When one hears the term ‘dancehall artiste’ an image in generally conjured of a person hailing from humble beginnings with educational challenges and countless tales of socioeconomic trials and triumphs. However 4th Genna recording artiste Jayds is definitely not your typical ‘dancehall artiste’ aside from his lyrical prowess and natural singing ability the emerging star is quite the scholar.

A graduate of Meadowbrook High school, the artiste born Jonoi Ranjay McCoulsky is an only child for his mother but shares three brothers on his father’s side of the family. Graduating with seven subjects from high school Jayds bypassed six-form choosing instead to enrol in a private tertiary institution where he pursued studies in Psychology, Business Management, Sociology and Communication Studies.

Despite, the establishment of a solid education, young Jayds soon realised the corporate lifestyle was not for him and his unyielding affinity for music eventually got him the first real opportunity to delve into the art form when one of his songs caught the ear of then emerging producer Onton (now Aidonia‘s official engineer) who took him under his tutelage honing his skill set in the process. The partnership subsequently led to the formation of ‘Ancient Records’ and within a year into their alliance Jayds was introduced to Aidonia via a mixtape titled ‘Jayds Mind Activity’, and as they say, the rest is history.

Five years later, aside from being an artiste, Jayds is also a talented producer/engineer and an honorary member of the 4th Genna Music imprint. Some of his most noteworthy efforts include rhythms such as ‘Hot Yeer’, Pure Water’, Dancehall Plague’ complimented by the singles ‘Frass Box’, Coco Powder, ‘Don Deh Yah’, Gangster Town, Better and Krayzay’ for both Aidonia and label-mate Govana.
