Shyne issued a response to Funkmaster Flex over his recent rant in defense of Diddy.
The former Bad Boy rapper turn politician finally had a chance to respond to the veteran New York disc jockey for calling him a “liar.” Funk Flex was responding to a recent comment from Shyne saying that he was used as a “scapegoat” in the 1999 Manhattan nightclub shooting incident involving Diddy. The Belizean rapper spent almost nine years in prison for the incident.
“I’m gonna keep it a buck,” Flex said. “Shyne, I love you bro, and I know what you’ve been though—no I don’t—but you’re a liar. You’re a stone-cold faced liar, Shyne.”
Funk Flex continues, “If you hated Puff so much, when he got the key to the city, you were in the trailer, sucker. You’re a sucker. I can’t stand you. You got no guts. You went to jail ‘cause you took out your guns ‘cause you were scared to get punched in the face by some dudes that you knew that was your people that you jerked.”
Shyne, whose real name is Moses Barrow, is currently promoting his new documentary, The Honorable Shyne, and he is thanking Funkmaster Flex for helping bring viewers to it but says he is a hater. A TMZ photographer recently caught up with the “Whatcha Gonna Do” rapper and asked him about Funk’s comments. According to Shyne, he is not surprised about the disc jockey’s comments because he also said “terrible” things about Jay-Z and Tupac Shakur in the past.
“He said terrible things about JAY-Z, he said terrible things about 2Pac, so I’m not surprised,” Shyne said. “Listen to The Lost Tapes. We all can’t be lying. What did Nas say? He didn’t like how Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers. But Funk Flex, as I said, he said terrible things about 2Pac, terrible things about JAY-Z. He brought audiences to my documentary so thanks for the promo.”
It’s unclear what Funkmaster Flex’s grouses with Shyne stemmed from. It appears he was responding to The Honorable Shyne documentary trailer which shows how the nightclub shooting derailed the “Bad Boyz” rapper’s career from being one of the most promising prospects in rap in that era.
Despite both Shyne and Diddy being arrested for the incident, which also involved Jennifer Lopez, only Shyne went to prison for it. It’s widely believed that the incident caused Combs and J.Lo to split.
Shyne has since hung up his mic and is now the leader of the Belize United Democratic Party and the Opposition Leader in the House of Representatives of Belize as he aims to be the country’s next leader.
