Young Thug’s first social media post after leaving prison has garnered a lot of attention after hinting at new music with Lil Baby and a seeming jab at Gunna.
The Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was released from jail on October 31 after copping a plea deal in his Rico case. The “Good Times” rapper gambled with a non-negotiated plea deal, putting his fate in the judge’s hands. Fortunately for him, he escaped any additional time behind bars but was sent home with a lengthy probation.
Young Thug will be on probation for the next 15 years and if he gets into any more trouble before completing probation, he could face 20 years in prison on the back end. His release from prison also means that the YSL Rico trial, Georgia’s longest-running trial in history, is narrowing down with two co-defendants declining plea deals, opting to fight their case.
Prosecutors had argued that Young Thug should have no contact with gang members while on probation. His attorney has specifically requested that he have contact with Gunna and his brother as he continues his rap career upon his release. The judge sided with his defense attorney, Brian Steel, and made an exception for contact with his collaborator.
Thugger is now at a secret location spending some time with his family and his girlfriend Mariah The Scientist. The rapper also hinted that he is ready to get back to music in a post on X. Rather than collaborating with Gunna, it appears Young Thug was shading the “Drip Too Hard” rapper. “Wham let’s drop one on these rats peter,” Thug wrote.
Gunna was among the first YSL co-defendants to take a plea deal in December 2022, resulting in heavy backlash and being labeled a rat. The rapper, whose real name is Sergio Kitchens, also saw some of his friends in rap turned against him in support of Young Thug. Thugger’s fans are taking that post as a shade towards Gunna.
Lil Baby has since reacted to Thug’s freedom via a post on Instagram Story. “I missed you mf !!” Lil Baby wrote. “Welcome home my brudda! Thank god you able to get back to the fam in good health and spirits! Wish ya none but billions jack! #whateverwhamsaygoes.”
A billboard with the words, “whateva wham say goes,” was spotted on Monday in Los Angeles. Fans are taking that sighting as a sign that new music is on the way.
