YSL Woody shows support to Young Thug following his release from prison despite his controversial testimony during the lengthy trial.
YSL Woody, real name Kenneth Copeland, was one of the YSL members arrested in May 2022, who would later take a plea deal and ended up becoming the prosecution’s star witness for several months earlier this year. However, his testimony might’ve backfired on the state after he appeared to become uncooperative on the witness stand and displayed several unexpected behaviors.
At one point during his testimony, Woody admitted to lying to law enforcement authorities about Young Thug by making up fake names about people involved in criminal activities. He said he played the role of a “snitch” to get authorities off his back whenever he was backed into a corner. Nevertheless, his testimony earned him a lot of backlash from Thugger’s fans and associates.
In a surprising turn of events, Young Thug copped a plea deal on Thursday, October 31, paving the way for him to go home under very strict probation rules. While his current whereabouts are unknown, the Atlanta rapper is believed to be home with his family and girlfriend, Mariah The Scientist, and is believed to be keeping a low profile.
YSL Woody was one of the persons who made celebratory posts on social media after news of the rapper’s release spread. “Thank you God [prayer emoji],” Woody wrote on his Instagram Story.
Following his controversial testimony in the Rico trial, Woody issued an apology to Young Thug last month while calling for his release. “The pain, the suffering, everything I’ve caused on him and his family,” he said in a video shared on YouTube. “I wish I had the mindset and the strength that I have now. I’ll never forgive myself. I took him through a process that I never should have took him through. Even though I know I’m not the cause of it, despite how anybody may feel, it’s wrong.”
Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was released from jail hours after pleading guilty to violating Georgia’s Rico Act. The judge sentenced him to serve five years in prison, which was commuted to time served, and 15 years on probation. The “Good Times” rapper was also sentenced to 20 years on the back end of his 15-year probation, which he will only serve if he gets into more trouble before his probation ends.
