R&B crooner Usher has a new track with Ella Mai called “Don’t Waste My Time.”
The two R&B powerhouses break things down on a Jermaine Dupri beat that samples Hi-Five’s “I Like The Way.” The beat screams that old school Jermaine vibe of the early 2000s, making it an exceptional party starter. Although the beat is a bit bumpy, the level of seduction from both artiste is quite smooth. “I’m motivated, I’m yours for the taking, I got what you need / bay I’m open, you got my attention undivided, oh baby come give me that,” sings Ella Mai. “Your loving, no questions, reach out and just touch me, bad habits don’t judge me, just don’t waste my time,” counters Usher.
This collaboration with Usher was the “Boo’d Up” singer’s childhood dream and she took to Twitter to mention how she felt while sending thanks Usher’s way, “A childhood dream. Thank you for having me @Usher.”
Ella Mai has had a phenomenal year, and her debut album was recently nominated in the category of Best R&B Album. She was ranked number 3 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Female Artists of 2019, and her track “Trip” was listed at number 7 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs of 2019. Usher has also been busy in the studio, working on his upcoming album, which is reportedly a follow up to his 2004 smash record Confessions. Lil Jon and Ludacris were once again tagged for the album, just as they were for “Yeah!” and “Lovers and Friends” in 2004.
Fans are anticipating another classic from Usher, with one commenting, “Usher is definitely back to his roots all over again. I sense another classic R&B/Soul album from this man right here.”
