Post Malone Wins AMAs For Best Rap Album, Fans Thinks Meek Mill Deserved It

Post Malone won Best Rap Album at the American Music Awards, but some fans think that Meek Mill should’ve won.

Following a year of hard grinding in studio and on stage, Post Malone‘s blessings came back to him on Sunday night in the form of a golden statuette from the fans. The “Take What You Want” rapper picked up the award for Favourite Rap / Hip Hop Album for Hollywood Bleeding at the 2019 American Music Awards that took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The 24-year-old receiving an award was hardly surprising as he went into the ceremony as this year’s most-nominated artist, courtesy of his 7 nods, but what was surprising, perhaps, is that he picked up this specific award.

Why? Well, have you heard Hollywood Bleeding? Although critically acclaimed and adored by fans who helped it debut at number one on the Billboard 200, the album has arguably more of a pop sound than that of hip hop, thanks to its inclusion of songs like “Sunflower” and “Circles”.

Post’s win in the Rap / Hip Hop Album category meant that he claimed the title over fellow artists Travis Scott and Meek Mill, and Twitter was not happy.

Many users on the social media network took issue as Post himself has described his music as “genre-less.”

“I don’t put people in boxes,” he previously told HITS Daily Double. “There are no genres anymore. If a song makes you feel nice or it makes you feel sad or if it makes you feel anything, what does it really matter what category it is?”

In Post’s defense, the AMAs are decided by public vote, so surely people should lay off the guy a bit? Either way, no matter how well you’re doing, you got to love Twitter for keeping you humble.

Harsh!
