There is no beef between Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Nicki Minaj’s camp wants the world to know there is no beef with pop-star Taylor Swift after the rapper name-dropped Swift in response to a fan about her rights to speak her truth about her own career. Minaj was back in the headlines last week after going on a social media rant about getting the recognition she deserves for her influence on the rap game over the last decade.
After a fan commented on a post made by The Shade Room saying Minaj “has got to stop with these rants,” Nicki quickly responded, comparing her plight to that of Taylor Swift’s.
“Blocked for being f*ing dumb & wanting black women to keep being afraid of speaking their truth. Taylor Swift can speak but I cant!???!,” she wrote.
Nicki was referring to a recent Tumblr post made by Taylor in which the singer responded to the news that her former label had been sold, a deal that she openly objected to that included the rights to her first six albums, according to the New York Times.
A source close to Nicki Minaj told Hollywoodlife that the “Megatron” rapper has “no issue whatsoever with Taylor Swift.”
The site also reported that Nicki feels as though she can’t speak as freely as other artists without judgement or backlash and that she was frustrated with the entire ordeal.
The 36-year-old rapper followed the rant with a compilation video that shows several clips of her paying homage to female rappers that came before her.
Minaj has since deleted her rant from Instagram.
