Mackerel is back on the airwaves with a new song, “Hear My Cry.”
The viral dancehall sensation pours her heart out in the emotional new track produced by Fortune Unit Records. Ever since becoming a household name on social media, Mackerel has been plotting a major career move into dancehall. “Hear My Cry” is her third single to date as she gets ready to drop off her debut EP. The comedic singer gets serious in this track as she reflects on her journey, including when her mom kicked her out.
“Me never did have no mother love when me a grow, my mother put me out when me was fifteen, and mi affi kotch with man,” she said in the song’s intro.
Last month, Mackerel did an interview with Winford Williams on OnStage where she broke down in tears while speaking about the hardships she endured growing up with her mother. Since then, she and m=her mom have been engaged in a bitter back-and-forth on social media. Now she is expressing herself in the form of a powerful new single.
“The struggle is real, but I’m stronger now /I’m a big girl now (repeat) / To judge people is a sin,” Mackerel sings. “Hear My Cry” is now available on iTunes and Spotify. Listen to the track below.
