Dancehall artists Popcaan, Agent Sasco, and Beenie Man among others delivered some memorable sets at whats been dubbed the best Rebel Salute showing to date.
The show saw huge turnouts on both nights of the festival and artists showed up to put on a show at the Grizzly’s Plantation in St Ann. Popcaan is gracing the Salute stage for the first time and no one knew what to expect given that the show is niche towards a more conscious crowd, but the Unruly Boss held his own and ran through hits like “Where We Come From,” “Dream,” “Gangster City,” and “Give Thanks.”
“Rebel Salute yo done know how it go its the Unruly Boss, Andre Sutherland,” Popcaan told the crowd as he entered the stage at day break Sunday morning. The Hotskull deejay also shout out his former mentor Vybz Kartel and Buju Banton who are both incarcerated. “Big up Vybz Kartel anywhere… You know it was Vybz Kartel who hep Popcaan up the ladder… big up Buju Banton,” he said.
Beenie Man performed at the closing of the event and gave the tired patrons a new burst of energy with an energetic set. Agent Sasco was also well received at the event as he reminded us of what a seasoned performer looked like on stage. Sasco was a real crowd please.
Rebel Salute earned our respect with this year’s staging. The reggae festival was well organized and performances were well received with the exception of one incident involving Tarrus Riley and Anthony B. But that matter was quickly resolved.
