Reggae dancehall star Sean Paul is among the highest selling Jamaican musician in history.
Paul took the music industry by storm in 2002 with his platinum-selling album Dutty Rock. Sean Paul linked up with StarRoc/Roc Nation songstress Alexis Jordan on his new dance track “Got 2 Luv U.”
Sean Paul recently sat down with GlobalGrind, where he opens up about his celebrity crush, favourite dancehall artiste, his new album and growing up in Jamaica. See some excerpts from the interview below.

On “Got 2 Luv U” with Alexis Jordan
“Basically, I wanted to work with Stargate, and they signed her. When I first heard the song, it was a demo of someone else singing the hook. I thought ‘We need a girl to sing it’ and we got the perfect girl. She’s beautiful, she sounds great, she came in second on America’s Got Talent, she came first on Britain’s Got Talent. She’s been selling records in Europe and Australia. This is her home.”
On favourite dancehall artiste and musical inspriration
“Some of them I produced, like I started with Charlie Black. People like Busy Signal are very hot. Agent Sasco who used to be known as Assassin.”
“Definitely people like Super Cat, Bob Marley. They gave the highway I’m able to drive right now. People like Bob Marley, people like Shabba Ranks, Super Cat. I was musically influenced by enough different things, The Beatles, people like Nirvana. I check out different types of music, I express myself with mainly dancehall reggae, and people like Biggie, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, those are enough musical influences right there.”
On his dream collaboration
“Alicia Keys and Shakira. When I do songs with ladies, it turns out the best that way. Alicia Keys and Shakira, I’ve been looking towards them for awhile. You hear Alicia Keys’ soul when she sings and I love that. Shakira has a whole package as an entertainer and I love it.”
On his celebrity crush
“Scarlett Johansson. Scarlett is a brilliant actress and she’s also hot.”
Sean Paul upcoming album is schedule for release in February with the single “Got 2 Luv U.”
