Rising Dancehall/Reggae Artist/Actor Everton “E-Dee” Dennis is headed back to Jamaica the week of Oct 30-Nov 5th to promote the island-wide Nov 2nd opening of his new movie “Out the Gate” which stars Paul Campbell (Shottas, Dancehall Queen), Oliver Samuels (Oliver at Large), and Shelli Boone (Saints and Sinners, House M.D.). He is also pushing new music including a Lovers Rock single “No Other Gyal (I’m sorry)” off the movie soundtrack, and
“Wine pon di table” a new dancehall number that has been heating up U.S. dance floors recently.
This year has been an incredible year for the multi-talented entertainer. In January he walked the red carpet in Hollywood for the release of “Out the Gate”. Not only did he star in the movie, but the story was co-written by him, and is based on actual events from his life. In May the movie came to the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens in the first multi-theater opening of a Jamaican movie since the 90’s. This summer the movie came back to Los Angeles and continued on in Atlanta picking up more fans and praise along the way. “It has been a dream come true”, stated Dennis. “Coming home to Jamaica where it all began
is my biggest joy” he continued. “Hearing the laughter and feedback from the showings in America felt great, but it made me anticipate even more bringing the movie home fi Jamaica a see it” said the dee-jay.
Dennis’s songs have been sought after by Hollywood appearing in “I Think I Love My Wife”, “How She Move”, “Like Mike 2”, and the television show “Greek”. E-Dee has been busy with new singles, mixtapes, and collaborations. He was recently voiced a new collaboration with hip-hop stars Jim Jones and Cam’ron, and Reggae veteran Junior Reid on “Party Tonight”. His earlier single “Rightful Place” from the movie is being followed up by “No Other Gyal” also taken from the movie. The 6′ 5″ dee-jay/actor burst on to the music scene in 2007 when his collaboration with Irie Love, “Revolution” hit the top ten in Jamaica, and was nominated for an EME award for best collaboration, while his feature on Ms. Triniti’s hit “Bongce Along” was also in the Top Ten on the island as well as charting in the Top 20 Billboard single sales. It was then that he and music producer Qmillion had the idea to make a movie.
“Acting on screen with Paul Campbell and Oliver Samuels was more than a learning experience, it was a dream come true”, exclaimed E-Dee. Everton’s performance in the movie is described as “mesmerizing” by Karibbean Expressions Magazine. “When I came to LA
after leaving Jamaica, I studied acting while is was building my music
career, so it was something I trained for”, Everton explained. Newspaper Atlanta Daily World wrote the movie “appears to be on its way to becoming a classic”, and with praise like that, odds are you will be seeing Dennis in more movie rolls.
With so many things happening for E-Dee, the expression “the sky is the limit” has never been more true. “Mi give thanks God, because a Him open up every door and make the impossible possible”, said the entertainer.
