Embattled dancehall star Vybz Kartel pleaded not guilty when he answered to charge of possession of marijuana in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Vybz Kartel female companion Alicia Jackson, however, pleaded guilty to said charge and was subsequently fined $500 or thirty days jail time.
Vybz Kartel lawyer, Michael Deans, asked the judge to drop the ganja charge, which the judge denied. He will return to court on Tuesday, October 11.
Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has yet to begin his toughest legal battle as he face trial for murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
Allegations are that on July 11, 2011, Palmer, along with a group of men, conspire to murder Barrington Burton aka “Bossie”, a St. Catherine based businessman/promoter. Burton, 27, was shot and killed while standing with friends alongside Walkers Avenue in the Gregory Park area.
The “Cake Soap” deejay is schedule to face the judge on October 13 to answer those charges.
