Haitian presidential hopeful Wyclef Jean recently revealed the hip-hop lyrics he wished he could have wrote, and admitted Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks” is one of his most envied tracks.
According to the ex Fugee star, he was impressed content-wise and sonically by “Jesus Walks”.
“The song is just a testimony to everything Kanye went through in his life…dude could have died in that car accident. It’s all about the style of the production. It’s very cinematic. When you listen to the words he saying he’s also giving testimony to Jesus. It’s just an incredible song.”
Jean also said he wish he could have masterminded late reggae legend Bob Marley’s “Exodus.”
“I wish I wrote ‘Exodus’ because it’s a movement. Bob could have made it about Haiti. The idea of a race of people saying, ‘Yo, it’s time for us to get out of this slavery under Pharaoh’s hand and to find the promise land.’ The story of Exodus to me always reminds me of the African story. I’ve been to Ethiopia a few times. I’ve talked to the Jews in Ethiopia. That song is a reflection of the original man.”
