Embattled reggae superstar Buju Banton bail hearing is set for today.
Last week Judge Anthony Porcelli of the Sam M Gibbons federal court in Tampa Florida, reserve his judgment until this week. Porcelli said he needed more time to examine the arguments put forth by sides before handing down a ruling.
Buju Banton has been behind bars since December of last year without bail.
Buju Banton lawyer David Markus two weeks ago files an application for his client to be release on bonds. Markus said his client is not a flight risk because of his popularity and says he will seek a bond in an immigration court if Banton is given bail.
But the prosecutor James Preston argued that Banton’s attorney has not given any legal support that the entertainer should be released pre-trial.
If convicted Buju Banton could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
