Reggae icon Buju Banton will spend another full week behind bars before knowing if he will be released on bonds.
The original bail hearing was set for today, But Judge Anthony Porcelli of the Sam M Gibbons federal court in Tampa Florida, reserve his judgment until next week Wednesday. Porcelli said he needed more time to examine the arguments put forth by sides before handing down a ruling.
Buju Banton lawyer David Markus last week files an application for his client to be release on bonds. Markus said his client is not a flight risk because of his popularity and says he will seek a bond in an immigration court if Banton is given bail.
But the prosecutor James Preston argued that Banton’s attorney has not given any legal support that the entertainer should be released pre-trial.
Preston said that Banton “wholly ignored the court’s earlier detention order. The motion should therefore be denied.”
