Alkaline
Alkaline, whose real name is Earlan Bartley, emerged as a controversial figure in dancehall in 2012/2013 and has since grown to be a force to be reckon in the genre with hit songs such as “Champion Boy,” “Formula,” “Fleek,” and “Block and Delete.” His debut album New Level Unlocked was released on March 25, 2016 and peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae chart. The project scored a few hits like “City” and “Wait Yuh Turn.”
Alkaline was born in 1993 and grew up in Kingston where he attended Ardenne High School. He started deejaying in school since he was 14 and started taking a career in music more serious when he started getting more attention at the age of 16. But while struggling to get his big break in dancehall, Alkaline drew more attention to himself using the shock-value of a eyeball tattoo. That move paid off big time and these days he is regularly compared to the likes of Vybz Kartel.
