Buju Banton Asked Judge To Reconsider 10-Year Sentence, Appears In Court Tuesday

Reggae singer Buju Banton will appear in court on Tuesday, October 30, for his sentencing hearing.

Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is serving a 10-year sentence in Florida for drug trafficking.

According to the Associated Press, The Grammy winning singer’s attorney filed a motion last week requesting that the judge reconsider his sentence.

The motion includes a letter from Banton’s previous attorney David Markus to Federal Judge James Moody.

Markus says Banton is a first time offender with a non violent past and a history of charitable work, which makes him eligible for a reduced sentence.

Buju Banton is facing an additional five years for a gun charge.
