Organizers of the Jamaican Jazz and Blues festival announced yesterdat the Soul Music icon Celine Dion will headline their 2012 show.
At a launch held at the Iberostar Hotel in Montego Bay, the shows Chairman, Walter Elmore, said Dion will be the closing act. He also announced a new production company, Art of Music Productions (AMP), is behind the upcoming staging of the popular show.
“Bringing an act the magnitude of a Celine Dion is something I have dreamt since the day I started the jazz festival 16 years ago,” Elmore admitted, adding that he never thought he would be able to do it. With admiration, the AMP chairman spoke of the multimillion-dollar album seller, Dion, “A factor in the entertainment. When you see a Celine Dion performance, it is etched in your mind,” Elmore said. “We wanted a name that was versatile and spoke to the product we currently offer.”
Celine Dion will share the stage with former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, Jamaican/Canadian Jully Black and jazz icon Nicole Henry who performed on the show in 2004.
The 2012 Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival will also pay homage to the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence. The shows producer AMP has announced a mix of musicians who will showcase the evolution of the Jamaican music. They include Toots Hibbert, Marcia Griffiths, Yellowman, Shaggy, John Holt and Half Pint.
The show is schedule for January January 26-28 at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium.
