Just this morning, Urban Islandz reported that Kanye West topped the Forbes list and became the highest-earning hip-hop artiste for the first time in his career. Other rap artistes including Cardi B, of course, made the list as well but Cardi is disputing the figure next to her name.
The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker sent out a tweet this afternoon questioning Forbes sources. Here we thought Forbes themselves was the source, but Cardi B posed an important question when she tweeted, “Where do Forbes be getting they numbers from cause they way off?” the platinum-selling rapper wrote.
Though we didn’t for a second doubt the information that Forbes published earlier, we too are now wondering how exactly they arrive at that bottom line figure. Cardi didn’t say whether the amount that they’re saying she earned is too much or too little, but considering the fact that she publicly disagrees in a tone like this, we’re going to say it’s the latter.

Forbes mentioned Cardi as a newcomer on the list adding that “Cardi B (No. 13, $28 million) follows close behind [Childish Gambino]—at age 26, she’s the youngest artist in this year’s rankings—and joins Nicki Minaj (No. 12, $29 million) as one of only two women on the list, the latest example of a pay gap that has long plagued hip-hop.” If Cardi actually made more than stated here, she might have even made more than Nicki Minaj who she is being compared to in this publication. We may be going out on a limb here, but that might have urged the “Money” rapper to make it known that Forbes got it all wrong.
Perhaps there is a large portion of Cardi’s gross income that wasn’t taken into account because it’s not settled on the books yet? All we’re saying is Forbes; please clear this up; educate us because the world needs to know not just who is getting the bag but the correct weight of that bag.
