Shenseea says she is hopeful about adding a Grammy and a diamond-selling record under her belt sometime soon.
The Jamaican singer has submitted her latest album, Never Gets Late Here, for Grammy consideration in the Best Reggae Album category for next year’s award show. She also has songs in other categories that she hopes will pick up nominations and potentially increase her chance of going home with one of those phonographs. Shenseea recently sat down for an interview with Bobbi Althoff in Jamaica where she opened up about her career and personal life.
“I think I have to get a Grammy because it has been a childhood dream for me,” Shenyeng said while noting that she also wants to achieve a diamond record, which would be a career defining moment for her. “You know, just growing up watching MTV, VH1, BET all of that and seeing the award shows, I think from a longer time I was like, ‘I have to get one of those when I get older.’ It’s not even that I’m materialistic; it’s just a dream to have one. I’ve achieved almost everything that I wanted to in my life, in my career thus far. So, Grammy is up next, and I’d like to have a diamond record too.”
This marks the first time in Jamaica for Bobbi Althoff who hit up some local spots including Dunns River Falls and Blue Hole with Shenseea. The pair also spoke about their love lives with the dancehall singjay saying she is currently single but is open to dating.
Despite its criticisms over the years, The Grammys is still the most respected music award ceremony in the world as artists and fans patiently wait every year to see who will pick up awards for the music they put out over the past year.
In the meantime, Shenseea says she is putting in the finishing touches on her third album, which she says is “practically done.” The project has yet to get a title or release date, but judging from her previous releases, fans can expect it in the first half of next year.
