Koffee and Rihanna might have a collab in the making.
Blessings continue to rain on Jamaican teenage Reggae/Dancehall sensation Koffee, even as she continues to speak her good fortunes into being. The 19-year-old continued her musical high recently, gracing the cover of the Get Up Stand Up issue of i-D magazine‘s Winter 2019 issue. In the accompanying interview, she revealed that a collaboration Rihanna might be in the making, although yet still unconfirmed.
“We’ve been playing around with some stuff. I think something is coming in the near future, but for now, I can’t confirm it,” Koffee said, as she described herself as a fan of the Barbadian singer, who also is a Koffee fan.
Koffee also confirmed an upcoming collaboration with American rapper Gunna for the song “W” set for release tomorrow, for which she has posted a preview of the music video on her Instagram stories.
“It’s coming in November. We did it in LA,” the Spanish Town native told the British bi-monthly magazine.
“I usually pre-write songs. I get a beat, I go home, I listen to it, I write something. But this came together in the studio. I listened to the beat, and the lyrics just came to me on the spot. We had this empty verse and thought, ‘Let’s get Gunna.’ He did it, and I was blown away,” she added.
Koffee posted the image of the magazine cover on her Instagram page on Friday, which evoked more than 91,000 likes so far from some of her 727,000 followers.
The year 2019 has been a phenomenal year for the 19-year-old who was born Mikayla Simpson. The Ardenne High School past student, among other things, received her first Grammy nomination in the Best Reggae Album category last week, was given a full feature in the November 2019 issue of Essence magazine, performed on Jamaica’s two biggest reggae shows Rebel Salute and Reggae Sumfest.
She was also interviewed on Nick Canon Mornings, on the Los Angeles-based Power106 Radio and captured the heart of President Barak Obama, who placed her mega-hit Toast, on his Summer Playlist.
Koffee also performed at a sold-out concert on Sunday, November 10, alongside Chronixx and his Zinc Fence Redemption Band at the Arena Birmingham on King Edward Road in the city, which has a huge Jamaican population.
Her Rapture EP received the not for nomination for the Best Reggae Album Grammy, alongside Julian Marley’s As I Am, Third Word’s More Work To Be Done, Mass Manipulation by Steel Pulse, and The Final Battle: Sly & Robbie vs. Roots Radics by Sly & Robbie and Roots Radics.
