Rihanna wants us all to know that she embraces her blackness through and through.
As if we needed any more reason to love Rihanna, the megastar hit us with some inspirational quotes about being a strong black woman on the red carpet of her famous Diamond Ball fundraiser. The fifth annual event was held in New York City Thursday night, and major celebrities like Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, Megan Thee Stallion, and Normani were spotted on the red carpet.
RiRi herself stopped on the carpet to speak with ESSENCE about what it means to be a black woman.
“I’m a black woman. I come from a black woman who came from a black woman, who came from a black woman and I’m going to give birth to a black woman … and so it’s a no brainer.” the Barbados native said. “That’s who I am, the core of who I am, in spirit and in DNA, and I’ll always stand up for what I believe in and who I love and who I know, who I respect.”
Rihanna went on to give props to her mother for raising her to be strong and gave props to all women of color who display Black Girl Magic on a daily basis. “My mother raised me to be an incredible woman. She’s a strong, incredible example of what to be and how to fight through obstacles in life and I’m sure her mom has also taught her. And that’s how I’m going to be. We’re impeccable. We are impeccable, we’re special, and the world is going to have to deal with that.”
Just the fact that she started the Diamond Ball shows how impeccable Rihanna truly is. The event raises money that benefits her Clara Lionel Foundation, founded in 2012, that supports education, health, and emergency response programs across the globe. The event comes a day after Rihanna debuted her Savage X Fenty lingerie collection at New York Fashion Week. The runway show will premiere to the public via Amazon Prime Video on September 20.
We may not know when we are getting a new album from the multi-talented megastar, but for now, the Navy can indulge in the rest of the fabulousness she has to offer.
