Since Vybz Kartel and Ishawna drop their new single “Washer Dryer” there have been chatters that the song was recorded behind bars.
Vybz Kartel has been fighting back allegations for the last few years that he has been recording music in prison. He recently released two new singles with Ishawna and some dancehall fans are saying that they were both recorded in prison. The Gazanation deejay’s close friend and producer Sikka Rymes says the claims are bogus because the songs were recorded before Kartel went to prison.
“She was always a fan of Kartel’s music, and she always wanted to be on a record with him,” Rymes said. “So I told him that she’d love to meet him and he allowed the visit, that’s how she got introduced. The songs they claim he is recording behind bars are songs that have been voiced already. So, when I link him, we just talk bout business and such. I basically link the producers and tell them what to release, and pick songs. As you can see, the song with Shenseea wasn’t originally a collaboration, but dem fix it up and make it look like that.”
Vybz Kartel and Ishawna recently released a music video for the single “Washer Dryer” and are promoting another single “How Can You.” Aside from that new single with Ishawna, Kartel has released more than half a dozen new singles since the start of the month prompting more discussions on whether or not he has been recording music in prison.
In March of this year, the Commissioner of Corrections, Ina Hunter, conducted an investigation into the allegations and concluded that there is no evidence to suggest that Vybz Kartel is recording music in prison. The “Fever” deejay also denied the reports that he has been recording new music behind bars. The deejay is currently awaiting his appeal trial set for February 18, 2018.
