Sean Paul Says Drake Not Giving Dancehall Enough Homage

Sean Paul is calling on Drake to give dancehall and Jamaican culture more homage.

It’s no secret that Drake has taken such a liking towards dancehall culture that he recorded an entire album full of dancehall influenced singles. The album Views was the biggest selling album released by any artist last year and one of the biggest in decades release by a rapper. Last Year Sean Paul sound off on Drake saying that not only he was not the best rapper, but he doesn’t make good dancehall music.

“I think at the time when it was popping off, it would have been good for him to actually put accolades towards the whole culture,” Sean Paul said in an interview with Metro. “He’s friendly with a few people in the business in Jamaica and that’s good, I love it. But if he had given more accolades when he was actually making it and said “this is the music I love”, it would have been cool.” Drake has developed a close friendship with Popcaan. The two are so close that some dancehall fans thinks they have a bromance going on.

SP also distinguish between Drake and Ed Sheeran who both released big dancehall hits. “Ed Sheeran has done one song that is huge and it’s dancehall reminiscent. But that is one song, he [Drake] had an album full of dancehall so I think he should have paid a bit of an accolade and told people in the press that is where I’m coming from, I have a love for that music,” the dancehall deejay said.

Sean Paul is currently working on his new album which will be the first under his new deal with Island Music. The project should arrive later this year, but so far SP has not give us a release date.
