Sean Paul found a new home. The dancehall hitmaker just sign a new deal with Island Records on a multi-album contract.
SP was previously signed to Atlantic Records for about a decade before going independent. But now he found a new home at Island just after he achieved his second Billboard No. 1 single with “Cheap Thrills” with Sia.
“Island is an iconic label,” Sean Paul told Billboard. “From when I was a kid I have heard and loved many artists on their roster, so it is a very familiar name to me. It was also just a very good offer – something that gives me great creative control and the space to experiment, which I’ve always wanted. When it comes down to music there are times when I just want to express myself and be an artist and not be told how to do that. The deal that Island offered me gave me that space that I’ve been searching for quite some time. I’ve had success with other labels [in the past], but we got in each other’s way.”
Sean Paul is currently working on his new album due later this year. He also told Billboard that he has been working with Shakira, Afrojack and David Guetta.
Hopefully, he’ll find his niche with this label.
