Trindad-American rapper Nicki Minaj continues her onslaught on the charts, further cementing her title as Hip Hop reigning queen.
The Young Money Femcee’s hit single “Super Bass” is now double platinum, making it the most successful female solo single in almost a decade. “Super Bass” peaked at number 3 on Billboard hot 100, one place behind Missy Elliot’s “Work It” which peaked at number 2 on the chart in 2002.
Cash Money co-founder Ronald “Slim” Williams weighs in on Nicki Minaj success, calling her more than a rapper.
“Nicki isn’t like any other female rapper,” Slim said of the YMCMB star. “We knew she had the goods when Lil Wayne signed her. She’s not a female rapper — she’s a pop star who happens to rap.”
Nicki Minaj has been all over the Billboard charts since 2009 and there is no slowing her down.
“Super Bass” is the eighth rap single by a solo female artist to reach the top 10 in the chart’s 53-year history. Since 2009, Minaj have had eight top 10 hits on the R&B/Hip Hop chart.
