Jermaine Dupri has reacted to the backlash and decided to put his money where his mouth is.
The veteran producer/rapper has come under fire from hip hop fans and some female artistes following his recent interview with People. Jermaine Dupri made it clear that he wasn’t feeling any of the new female rappers out now and that statement causes an avalanche of backlash starting with Cardi B who unleashed her fury in an expletive-laced video on her IG page.
Since then, a number of other female rappers have weighed in, and hundreds of thousands of fans have also added their voice to the conversation. Jermaine Dupri says he heard the outcry and has decided to act and launched the So So Def Female Cypher.
“After all the calls, DMs, angry tweets and other messages saying ‘I am a major gatekeeper in the hip hop world, why don’t I invest in a female who is out here hustling and making a name for herself?'” he wrote. “I decided to create the #SoSoDefFemalecypher, details coming soon.”
Since making the announcement, a number of up-and-coming female rappers have since expressed their interest in being a part of the Cypher in hopes of getting their big break.
