Jussie Smollett was indicted by a Cook County grand jury for felony disorderly conduct in Chicago.
Empire actor Jussie Smollett is facing jail time after being indicted for filing a false police report. Chicago police department has been hinting that the singer/actor could be charged and named as a suspect in the case that he filed with the department last month. Cops say the two brothers whom they arrested and later released have been fully cooperating with them, and that’s how they learned that Smollett orchestrated the whole thing including paying the brothers to take part in his scheme.
On Wednesday (February 20), ABC7 News reported that Chicago PD released video surveillance of the two brothers purchasing the items used in the attack against Jussie Smollett. Employees at the beauty supply store in a Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood confirmed that the brothers came to the store to purchase ski masks.
CPD has since confirmed the authenticity of the video footage. A security guard name Montago Silas told reporters that he remembers the brothers vividly because they purchased some unusual ski masks that folks hardly ever bought.
“It was bizarre because it was unusual for people to purchase these type of masks, not since the 70s, but I thought it was a little strange,” Montago said.
Within hours of the brothers purchasing the items, Jussie Smollett reported the attack. He was taken to the hospital to get treatment for his injuries after telling police that the attack was homophobic and racist.
Just talked to north side store security guard Montago Silas who says the siblings in Jussie Smollett case purchased these ski masks hours before alleged attack. @ABC7Chicago pic.twitter.com/ZW6eT9H4PW
