Joe Budden shares what might’ve led to the falling out between Drake and Metro Boomin.
The Canadian rapper and the producer had a social media spat earlier this year that eventually morphed into a hip-hop civil war with several artists against Drake. Many of us thought that their feud started last December when Metro Boomin tweeted about Drizzy’s album, Her Loss, winning rap album of the year over the producer’s studio album, Heroes & Villains.
“Proof that award shows are just politics and not for me,” he wrote. “Idc about awards honestly, the true award and REWARD is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to people’s everyday lives.”
Drake immediately unfollowed the producer after learning about the tweet, despite Metro Boomin deleting the post. The artist and the producer would later trade jabs at each other on social media in the weeks and months that ensued. At one point, Metro trolled Drizzy with the “BBL Drizzy” name that Rick Ross coined in his feud against the Canadian artist.
Joe Budden, who is also a foe of Drake, has shed some light on what he thinks caused the falling out between the “God’s Plan” rapper and the producer. The Slaughterhouse rapper went on a fiery rant on Instagram earlier this week against Drizzy, calling him a “selfish, lying, manipulative, sack of sh– who has made enemies for 15 years.”
Joe Budden also accused Drake of sending money and messages to other rappers’ girlfriends and baby mothers behind the scenes and sewing discourses. Perhaps the most telling part of his message was his accusation about what led the the falling out with Metro Boomin, whose mother was killed by her husband in 2022 in a murder-suicide.
“Aye all that’s cool but where my beat at ni—,” Budden continues while alluding to what Drizzy told Metro Boomin. “I don’t give a f— that your mom died.’ This ni—s been a sack of sh– behind the scenes and because he got fans and had Lucian, everybody just gets to turn a blind eye. The blind eye days are done.”

Metro Boomin might also be the catalyst of the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef, which saw the OVO rapper emerging with some bruises after they traded diss tracks. Kendrick took shots at Drake and J. Cole on the single “Like That” off Metro and Future’s joint album, We Don’t Trust You, which led to Drizzy issuing a response diss track.
