Nicki Minaj is calling for the other officers to be charged with George Floyd’s death.
The world zoomed in on Minnesota in the last week as a video surfaced of an officer kneeling in the neck of the then handcuffed George Floyd. The 46-year-old African American man was pronounced dead after the incident and the Black population as well as others in America understandably stood up to protest to ensure the officers involved were charged. The advocacy came quickly from everywhere as the marches and social media campaigns made the cry for justice even higher.
As expected, many celebrities have come out to show their support – black and white alike. Kelly Rowland in an interview with ET said, “I can’t sit still, I’m angry, I’m hurt, at times feeling helpless” all while holding back what seemed to be an ocean of tears. It is evident that the recent incident has triggered a reaction like none in recent times and the fire is being stoked from all directions.
Nicki Minaj broke her silence on the subject first by posting a board that had the last words of some of the victims of police brutality. In the caption, she stated her case which was a juxtaposition of what happens when a black man commits a similar crime to what the police personnel involved in Floyd’s murder did.
“When 4 black THUGS commit a crime, if 1 person commits murder, they ALL get charged & CONVICTED. When white THUGS/COPS KILL innocent black people, ALL 4 of them are responsible!!! They all watched an unarmed man die and did nothing!!! Why do they have different rules?????” Minaj said alongside the Instagram post.
She continued to outline her frustrations with “Let your voice be heard, be angry. White people have been using violence against us since the beginning of time. We didn’t invent violence & looting. Will these officers actually get convicted? Probably not. Let your voice be heard. Call & TEXT to be a part of these petitions. May Mr. Floyd Rest In Peace”
Nikki Minaj’s words will go a long way in prompting her fans and all who respect her to lift their voices as the world seeks justice for George Floyd. In these troublesome times, a word from the queen helps to promote solidarity within the currently scarred black community. Nicki is just one of many black celebrities who have spoken out. It is expected that the verbal protests will skyrocket on Black Out Tuesday tomorrow when the whole world will reflect on how to tackle these social injustices and racial inequality.
