Shaggy Shells Saudi Arabia’s Diriyah Music Fest

Dancehall superstar Shaggy took a break from his role as Chief Caribbean Officer for Virgin Holidays and flew to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where he ignited a musical firestorm on Friday night, at the Diriyah Music Festival.

The festival was one of the activities during the country’s Ad Diriyah Season. Shaggy did renditions of some of his biggest hits, including Mr. Bombastic and Hey Sexy Lady, but it was Strength of a Woman, the artiste said, which was the highlight of his entire performance.

“It was so amazing singing this song last night in Saudi Arabia… very empowering’ well received by all … women recently were granted the right to drive in Saudi Arabia’ a lot is changing proud to be a part of it’ #StrengthOfAWoman,” Shaggy noted on Instagram under a video snippet of his performance.

The Diriyah Season is a set of international sports and entertainment events that take place annually at Diriyah, the birthplace of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Before Shaggy left for the Middle East, he sought to have someone vie to fill his space as Chief Caribbean Officer, while he is off on tour promoting his latest album Whagwaan.

“I’ve been checking out Antigua but need someone to cover for me while I go on tour. Find out how to apply for this amazing opportunity!” the superstar noted on his Instagram page.

“Virgin Holidays new Chief Caribbean Officer reporting for duty – check out the view from Shirley Heights! There’s more ground to cover on my Antigua hit list – apply to cover for me out here while I go on tour,” he wrote in another post.

In a post on its website, Virgin Atlantic quoted Shaggy as saying Shaggy that he loves traveling around the world to perform, but his journey began in the Caribbean, and he still calls it home.

“Having just returned from an amazing trip to Antigua, there’s still a lot of ‘work’ to do, so an energetic recruit needs to fill my shoes while I’m on tour for my new album,” the platinum-selling artiste said.

“That means experiencing as many bars, restaurants and activities as possible. It’s a tough gig – but someone has to do it!” he added.
