Diddy is giving out his phone number and fans aren’t sure why.
You never know what hip-hop mogul Sean “P. Diddy.” Combs is up to and he always seems to have some tricks up his sleeve. So when he woke up Thursday morning and decided to give his phone number out to his 15.5 million Twitter followers, fans weren’t exactly sure why. “Hey. Text me,” Diddy said before adding a phone number with a New York City area code. Other tweeters were sure it was a scam, but some took their chance at hitting up the Bad Boy CEO anyways and screenshotting their results.
Once you text the number, an automated message responds with a link to sign up for the Community app, a system that sends out massive message alerts. “It’s Diddy. Thanks for texting,” the message said. “Who’s this? Be sure to click the link and add your contact so you hear it from me first. Everything else will be from me. Direct.” The link sends the user to a contact form that asks you to fill out your name, date of birth, gender identity and location. Afterwards the user gets another texts that says Diddy has you “locked in” and he sends you his contact info to save in your phone for good.
So what would Diddy have to say to millions of people? Hours after giving out his number he posted a video of himself responding via voice memo to a fan who followed the instructions. “This is Diddy. This is me, you know … aka Love,” he said. “I hope your having a beautiful day. Stay tuned. I’m going to be sending you a lot of special content to inspire you, to uplift you. I’m going to be sending you information that the government doesn’t want you to know. I’m going to start leaking government files that we need to know as a people. Okay? Stay tuned.”
It sounded a little like Diddy was trolling, and it still wasn’t very clear what he plans to do with all of his new friends’ phone numbers. But he pinned his own number to his Twitter profile so whatever the plan is, he’s serious about it. We will have to stay tuned to see how it plays out.
